Our tiny apartment had some quirky little features (read: irritatingly small dead spaces) that I noticed the first moment we walked in. But instead of seeing dead space or issues to work through, I saw potential. And that made me fall in love.
One of those spaces was the world’s smallest dining room. Ok so it might not be the smallest, but it is tiny and luckily it was actually the perfect size for our round IKEA dining table and the perfect blank canvas for my wainscotting dreams.
Here’s what we walked into:
Overall, not bad. But it felt so dark and the darkness made it feel small. And dark small spaces are not inspiring. It had to change.
See, I had been an avid watcher of Three Birds Renovations, so my reno brain kicked in and I knew what to do: wainscotting and make it white. It was so clear to me!
Our joinery specialist Jason Alexander from Living Walls Joinery quickly got to work. If you’re in Sydney and want to live your wainscotted dream, he’s your guy – bloke is a genius.
I opted for a larger panel in the middle so I could hang a large wedding photo in a gold frame (full disclosure: a whole year later and I have not done this yet 🙄) and Jason continued the chair rail from the living room through to our dining nook.
The result was… breath taking. Like I am obsessed with it.
We painted the space Dulux Vivid White and styled it with a gold pendant light and the wainscotting… It’s just perfect.
What do you think?
This space couldn’t have turned out better. It’s so bright now and no longer a dingy back corner of the apartment. Instead, now this space is a huge focal point and favourite feature of our apartment.
